Make a doll!

Hi I'm Natalie, and this is my blog! I'm 23, and live in New Zealand. I'm an avid crocheter (some would say rabid)! I dabble a little in felting, knitting, dying, and spinning too.

    Free Pattern - Men's handwamers

I created my Dad a pair of handwarmers!  He's going fishing soon, and I don't want his hands to get too freezy!

I've had my little eye on the
Inca yarn by Paton's.  The colours are quite cool for boys (and girls's) stuff, especially colour #7006, it's three greens plied together!  I figured it'd be perfect for some handwarmers for Dad.  So, I bought a ball and had a play.  Unfortunately it's a 16ply yarn, so I had to use a 6-7mm hook, and crocheting in the BLO just didn't look ribbed...  The only solution was to knit them.  But, since it's a small project, and I used 6.5mm needles, they made up in no time at all!  Plus, plus, plus, it takes exactly one 50g ball to make (including seaming).

    And here's the pattern:

    Men's handwarmer

(NB. that's my little hand in there, I haven't been able to get Blair or Dad to model it for me yet, but as soon as I do I replace this photo!)

    Men's Handwarmers (Knit)

    Yarn: Paton's Inca, 16-ply (58 metres per 50 grams), 1 skein.  I used shade 7006, green.
    Needles:
    6.5mm (old UK 3, US 10½)
    Gauge:
    8.5 st in 5cm (1x1 rib)

    Right Hand
    CO 31 st
    Row 1: k1, p1 until end (you will end with a k1)
Rows 2-18: work in establised rib
Row 19: work in established rib for first 23 stitches.  BO last 8.  Finish yarn off and cut.
Row 20: reattach yarn, and work the 23 stitches in established rib
Rows 21-26: work in established rib
    Bind off.

Seam the left and right edges together, missing out the thumb hole.

    Left Hand
the left hand is worked the same as the right hand except for rows 19 and 20

Row 19: BO first 8 stitches.  Work the remaining 23 stitches in established rib
Row 20: work in established rib

So, there you have it :)

I'm also working on an 8ply version, just to complete the family :O
