Make a doll!

Hi I'm Natalie, and this is my blog! I'm 23, and live in New Zealand. I'm an avid crocheter (some would say rabid)! I dabble a little in felting, knitting, dying, and spinning too.

Free Pattern - Plain Ribbed Handwarmers

I whipped up this little pattern out of that yarn I dyed with food colouring (click here for the post).  I've been wanting an 8ply version of my Beaded Handwarmers, as they are thicker and quicker!

It's a little tough to see the texture of the stitches in this pic (because of the colour variation) but it's basically a crochet rib stitch (dc in BLO) like the beaded handwarmers.

You can definately add beads to this pair too, just like the
Beaded Handwarmers, but I'd recommend at least a 6/0 seed bead.  They tend to fit on an 8ply just fine for me!

I'm not going to include instructions here, but look at the beaded pattern and you'll hopefully get the idea).

    Plain Ribbed Handwarmers

    Plain Ribbed Handwarmers

Yarn: I used 50g of some old cream 8ply yarn, which I dyed using food colour.  Panda
Woolbale (92m per 50g; 100% pure new wool), is very similar to the wool I used.
    Hook: 4mm (old UK 8, US G)
    Gauge: 5dc in 2.5cm

This pattern is written in English notation.

All dcs are in Back Loop Only (BLO) of the previous row.

    Right hand:
All dcs are in BLO of previous row, except Row 1, which is worked into the starting chain as usual.

    Ch 30
    Row 1:
dc in 2nd ch from hook, and each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (30 dc)
Row 2: dc in each st in previous row.  Ch 1, turn. (30 dc)
    Row 3-28: repeat Row 2. (30 dc)
Row 29: dc in first 25 st, ch1, turn (the reamined 5 st are left unworked) (25dc)
    Row 30:
dc in each stitch across.  Ch 1, turn. (25 dc)
    Rows 31-36: repeat Row 30. (25 dc)
    Finish off

Using slip stitches, join the foundation chain to he last rows (both on Row 28 and Row 36). Since there are an equal number of stitches to join on each side, it is easy to stich them together evenly.  Weave in any ends.

    Left Hand:
Left hand follows the same pattern as the right hand, except Rows 28-29 are as follows.

    Row 28:
dc in each st in previous row.  Finish off. (30 dc)
    Row 29:
with new  loop, sk first 5 st, and ch 1 in 6th dc from finishing off(does not count as first dc), and dc in same stitch.  Dc in each stitch across. Ch 1, turn. (25 dc)
