Make a doll!

Hi I'm Natalie, and this is my blog! I'm 23, and live in New Zealand. I'm an avid crocheter (some would say rabid)! I dabble a little in felting, knitting, dying, and spinning too.

Free Pattern - Textured cotton face cloth

I created this pattern so I would have an easy face cloth pattern which made 2 cloths out of one 50g ball of 8ply cotton and used as much of it as possible, without needing more than one ball.  As a result, I border the outside with a different colour, because if it is stitched all in one colour, it needs about 5m of a second ball.  I could probably get around it by using a slightly smaller hook, but I like using my 4mm Milward hook with 8ply cotton.

If you haven't used a crocheted, pure cotton face cloth before, I really do recommend it.  I'm not one for making extra work for myself, but I think these are easily worth the effort I put in.  I like the sturdiness of the dc construction, and using a BLO, FLO stitch pattern makes a nice texture (so it can remove makeup easily, without being too rough on delicate skin), and alleviates some of the boredom of only using one stitch.

Yarn: half a ball of 8ply 100% mercerised cotton (104 metres per 50 grams), plus about 6 metres in a contrasting colour.
    Hook: 4mm (old UK 8, US 6)
Gauge: Isn't too important, but my cloth ends up about 19cm across when the border is finished.

This pattern is written in English notation.

    Abbreviations
FLO = in front loop only (of stitch in previous row)
BLO = in back loop only (of stitch in previous row)

    Ch 34
Row 1: dc in 2nd chain from hook, and each chain across.  Chain 1, turn. (33 dc)
Row 2: dc in first stitch, dc in BLO of next stitch, (dc in FLO of next stitch, dc in BLO of next stitch) 15 times, dc in both loops of last stitch.  Chain 1, turn. (33 dc, 2 in both loops, 16 in BLO, and 15 in FLO)
    Rows 3-33: repeat Row 2
    Finish off.

Change to a contrasting colour, and dc around the outside, with 3 dc in each corner.
    Finish off.

    Weave in ends.
