Make a doll!

Hi I'm Natalie, and this is my blog! I'm 23, and live in New Zealand. I'm an avid crocheter (some would say rabid)! I dabble a little in felting, knitting, dying, and spinning too.

    FO - Blair's anniversary scarf

So, here's a scarf I finished a while ago, I made it for Blair for our 7 year anniversary.

He loves his other scarf, but it was the 2nd scarf I ever crocheted, and it's in a cheap acrylic (I didn't know much about fibre then, or relavtive warmth) so I needed to make him a nice one in warm, warm wool.  I needed to make a nice thick one that will keep out the rain hail and snow when winter arrives.

    And here's the finished object:

Basically, it's was made of a white 10-ply yarn, that I picked up from an op shop.  It's so nice and soft!  and I got about 700g of it, so there's loads there to play with.

I dyed 200g of it it with a shade of blue (I added a little orange to make it less of a pure blue) then randomly dyed it with black.

I then knitted it in a simple 2x2 rib (because ribbing all bunches up and you end up with a thicker fabric) with a double strand, on 10mm needles.

And Blair loves it!  It's nice and thick and warm, and it keeps out the wind.

    Guilt - the best motivator

I have been feeling guilty all week because Thursday a week ago, I promised on my blog that I'd update over the weekend.  Then, I didn't.

My mum was very disappointed because she'd believed me, and then didn't have anything pretty to look at when she got to work on Monday.  It was a sad sad time...

So, I'm making sure this weekend, that my mum does have somthing pretty to look at on Monday morning.  So, I'm going to do my best to blog as much as I can over the weekend.  I only have pics of Blair's scarf, and my latest dying adventure at the moment.  Blair's camera battery is dying, and I don't know how to charge it up...  I almost couldn't get the pictures I'd already taken, as the camera kept turning off.

    So, here goes!

    Hmmm

Well, I'm still not sure what was up with my page, but I can see everything now.  And I don't think anyone else but me was affected.

Also, if you look very closely, you will notice that I haven't blogged anything, and now the weekend is over...  Let me just say that I got a 20gb MP3 player in the weekend, and I'm slowly putting my favourite music on it, so I had no time to blog.

However, I do have a couple of ideas for a little padded case for it :)  I've been swatching so I should have something thrown together in a couple of days!

    Totally weird....

Okay, I just need to say some strange stuff is going down here...    I just logged on here with my Mozilla browser, and I haven't used my lappy for a while, and when I log onto my home page, the past 2 posts aren't visible, the latest is my one on Karen's frilly wristwarmers.

Unfortunately if this is a problem for you personally, I'm thinking you won't even see this post.

I'll see what I can do because I was planning to do some dying tomorrow and also blog quite a few little things.  However, if you scroll in the calendar in the side bar, and click on the latest post, then you can see everything.  Super-strange.  I'll post again if I can get it sorted.

No - I haven't fallen off the face of the earth

I've had a couple of colds in quick succession.  I will show some things off in the weekend (when I'll hopefully get some time).

In fact, I'll list them now to remind me
    - Knitting Olympics pashmina (so snuggly and warm!)
    - Blair's scarf
    - Star-shaped baby blankie
    - Pretty first yarn made on
Betsy (dyed, plied and beaded - would you believe?)
    - I intend to blog some more dyeing instructions at some point
    - And a current WIP (work in progress), a brown cardi ;)

And for those who are interested, I'm now nearly finished week 2 of my Psychology Master's.  It's going pretty well - hold on, I just remember now that I thought up a couple of experiments just before I fell asleep last night, I wonder if I will be able to recall what they were...  Poo.

I've also begun to set up an online store, because I think that'd be really cool.  There's nothing in it yet though, because I need to make some things to sell.  Maybe when winter settles in I'll have more time.

That's about all I have to say at the moment.  I hope you all are feeling a bit nicer than me.  Yuk yuk yuk.  I hate colds.

The Knitting Olympics - Day 3

Hello, dear reader.  It is now Day 3 of the Knitting Olympics.  I also hear there's another Olympics on, and they are onto Day 3 too, imagine that ;)

I got up early on Saturday morning and watched the opening ceremony, it certainly had some weird bits, but man, were there some awesome bits!  The lighting of the flame was truly spectacular!  And before my nearest and dearest get worried about me watching sport, and call up the men in white coats to take me away, I haven't watched a single bit of it since then :) watching the ceremony was just an excuse to get up at 7am without having Blair grumble that  should still be sleeping.  But I did start knitting my Olympic Effort.

However, I cast on at the start of the ceremony, when the rules stipulated that casting on should begin with the lighting of the flame, but since the official rules also state that I should have started at 2pm in my local time, I actually started late, rather than early.  Yay for me!

And here is my progress so far, in all its curly, un-blocked glory!

I'm on to ball 2 of 5, and I'll definitely get it finished before the Olympics end.  I guess I should have tried a harder challenge, but it certainly seemed a big challenge to this beginner knitter.  And I'm feeling I may be a little over committed to everything at this point, so it may end up being as much as I can handle, on top of everything else.

Speaking of other commitments, I'm also working on a star-shaped baby blankie, in dark fuchsia pink and purple.  The heat today is making me so tired, so you were lucky to get the above picture of my shawl, taking one of the blankie is just too big of an ask.

I'll also have to post a pic of the scarf I made my Blair for our anniversary last week, but like I said – you're lucky to get even one pic :)

I'm going to have a wee nap now, I'm very tired, and Blair's playing StreetFighter which is so loud and annoying, I'm pretty sure it was invented purely to give me a headache.  Grumble grumble grumble.
